Pangsua Pond · Lean on Me, 2023

A New Day was part of Lean on Me at Pangsua Pond, on the boardwalk over the water. Lean on Me is a mental wellbeing initiative across Holland-Bukit Timah and Bukit Panjang, with five installations by different artists. The creatures along the railing were inspired by the floating wetlands and by the idea of transformation. Butterflies and a caterpillar, dragonflies, ladybugs and a peace dove.

Look closely at a butterfly and you see it is made of hundreds of small crocheted flowers, contributed over many months by people across the community. On its own, every flower is already beautiful. Together they hold one another up and become something greater. That is the heart of it. Nobody stands alone.
