Crochet Garden, our next community project at Fusionopolis One
We have a new project, and this one grows. Crochet Garden is a whole landscape made of yarn, going up at Fusionopolis One from 1 to 21 October 2026. It is inspired by the Singapore Garden Festival, and like all our big pieces it is made by many hands.
Here is the idea. Everyone crochets a potted plant. Put them all together and they become the Reading Nook, a quiet garden corner to chill. You can see the artist’s impression on the project page.
What you make
You choose a plant from our list and crochet it as a potted plant, in 5 or 8 ply yarn and colours close to the real thing. You will need to know how to crochet but may not have done plants before. That part takes a few new tricks. Our volunteers are on hand to help you shape leaves and petals, and to get you unstuck. The first kickoff meeting is on 18 July 2026, where you bring your first sample. The only size rule is that a plant should stand at least 30cm tall, and bigger is always welcome.
The list leans towards plants native to Singapore. You can make a hibiscus, an orchid, a ginger, jasmine, cempaka, pandan, or a pitcher plant. There are the big architectural ones too, the bird of paradise, heliconia, the split leaves of a monstera and other aroids. A sunflower works. Roses, carnations, and frangipani sit this one out. If you have another plant in mind, tell us.
How to take part
- Register through our sign-up form.
- Choose your plant and find a pattern for it.
- Get your materials, 5 or 8 ply yarn and wire.
- Start crocheting, and bring your sample to the kickoff meeting.
If you are joining us after 18 July 2026, you have not missed anything. Recruiting runs until the installation in October, so bring your sample to a meetup instead.
You do not need to be an experienced maker, and you do not need to be part of the group already. As long as you can crochet, there is a place for you in this garden.
